❓ Did you know
Curitiba is crossed by many rivers and streams. The main river basins in the city are the Atuba, Belém, Barigüi, Passaúna, Ribeirão dos Padilhas, and the Iguaçu River basin. Since the 1970s, Curitiba has developed a system of parks and green spaces along its rivers that include lakes and wetlands designed to hold excess rainwater and reduce flooding. These parks serve both as flood control areas and as recreational spaces for residents. The city also runs environmental programs focused on protecting its rivers, combining restoration, monitoring, cleanup efforts, and community education.
